Virginia Theatre in Champaign, Illinois is extremely proud and very excited to be staging, on Thursday 17th July 2025, a teen version of the epic Broadway theatrical production, entitled, Hadestown - Teen Edition. Based on the same story lines, like the original, the book, the lyrics and the music are the brainchild of Anais Mitchell. However, some of the lines, and some of the lyrics, have been dubbed down, for the younger school going audiences. If you did not get to see the original, this is a strongly recommended 'stand in' production. Equally as epic. Equally as thrilling. Equally as enjoyable. This is a superb theatrical production not to be missed.

HADESTOWN - TEEN EDITION AT VIRGINIA THEATER, CHAMPAIGN.
From the brainchild of Anais Mitchell, the book, lyrics and music, forms the basis of this Teen edition of a masterful blockbuster of a Broadway Theatrical production. Hadestown was epic. This teen edition, with some lines and musical lyrics modified for younger teen audiences, promises to be just as epic. This production follows the tragic telling, of intertwining of two love stories, that of a young couple Orpheus and Eurydice and the king of the underworld, King Hades and his wife, Lady Persephone.
To borrow a line from Neil Diamond's - I Am I Said - "except for the name and a few other changes - the story is the same one",
Young composer Orpheus ventures into the underworld, where King Hades has lured his girlfriend with promises of a better life, but is actually recruiting cheap labor. Kind Hades accepts Orpheus's proposal of writing him a love song, so that Hades may be reunited with his gorgeous wife, in return for the release of Eurydice - until the double standards of the underworld set in.
If EVER, there was a MUST-SEE performance, this is it. Greek Mythologies and love stories go hand in hand, and invariably end in tragedy. But the journey between opening curtain, to final epitaph, the stories are epic, lovable and unforgettable.
VIRGINIA THEATER IN CHAMPAIGN IN ILLINOIS
The historic Virginia Theater in Champaign has had several sections revamped and upgraded over the years, until now it boasts, some of the most modern of equipment and facilities. In keeping with the original design and concept of this 1920 building, the renovations have been so expertly completed that very few, if any, of the reconstructive work is visible by the visiting public. Capable of doubling as a movie house, a theatrical entertainer, the building has the capacity to host music concerts along with traditional and monthly community events and functions.
