Get your tickets to Hollywood's Golden Age! Sponsored by The News-Gazette as part of their monthly film series, you, your family and your friends can watch the classic Hitchcock film on the big screen once more. Starring James Stewart, Grace Kelly, Wendell Corey, Thelma Ritter and Raymond Burr, Rear Window (1954) is NOT a cheap thrill. On Saturday, October 19th, intensify your day with two hours of dangerous levels of suspense at the Virginia Theater, Illinois.

Award-winning director Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock, known as the "Master of Suspense," has perfected his art. In Rear Window (1954), suspense is planted all through the film, banking the sense of eeriness in our memory, almost like a foreplay. And the final payoff? An extreme chill that won't dissipate for days.

The Academy Award-nominated movie, Rear Window, is touted as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States National Film Registry and was ranked #42 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies list and #48 on the 10th anniversary edition. It's a must-watch for any film enthusiasts or anyone who wants something past the suspense of slasher films and wants a REAL suspense.

In the movie, we follow professional photojournalist and fashion photographer L.B. "Jeff" Jefferies, played by James Stewart. Due to his broken leg, he spends his days confined to a wheelchair and soon grew an obsession on spying his neighbors. Gradually, he gets hints that point to a possible murder committed by a neighbor against his wife. Like Hitchcock's Lifeboat (1944) film, the suspense is built within a very confined space.

But, the movie is not the only highlight of the event. Visit the venue early to witness an exquisite performance by the house organist David Schroeder, who will perform on the Virginia's historic Hope Jones II Wurlitzer pipe organ. After the 7PM screening, you can also find News-Gazette film critic Richard Leskosky who is finally back once again this season to host a post-show talk about the film.

The historic Virginia Theater, a Champaign-Urbana landmark since 1921, is the home to bustling cinema, including classics like the upcoming film screening of Rear Window. To get your tickets to this thrilling affair, just click on the blue button above this page!
